You weren't kidding when you said it was "deceptively simple yet surprisingly deep" but the AI is ruthless AF, and it's like they all team up against you, whether you choose to be peaceful or a warlord. Your AI can betray you and cause you to start all over, and an enemy unit cutting off your troops also tends to pretty much end your game too
